Medical Waste Disposal Lexington

Medical waste disposal, when looking for this service you may be surprised to find out there are so many types of medical waste disposal lexington kentuckycompanies. There are true medical waste disposal companies that employ the drivers that come to your practice or facility, they own and brand the trucks with their company names, logos and they own the processing plants that destroy your medical waste.

With this option, in our opinion, this type of company is setup the best to deliver quality service at the most economical pricing.

Any other company setup is subject to other companies’ practices, safety measures, employees, routes and processing plants. Which is a service they must pay another company to perform. You could have as many as three other companies all trying to complete your one service. Besides the obvious of having three companies trying to make money from your one bill, it becomes much harder to manage or provide a quality service when trying to coordinate so many companies performing one service.

At Healthcare Waste Management we provide the service from start to finish, we own the processing plants that treat your medical waste. We have treated over 15.5 million pounds at our processing plants. We own the trucks that haul your medical waste, we felt this was important to ensure they are properly equipped to haul medical waste as per DOT, local, state and federal guidelines. We also directly employ the drivers that come into your office, we felt in order provide quality service we had to professionally train our employees to safely transport and handle your medical waste. These are all infrastructures we built to offer you the best possible service and pricing. We are deeply invested in your service, if you are looking for this service make sure to ask any potential vendor these questions. Do you own the medical waste processing plant? Is the driver that comes into my office on your W2? Do you own the trucks that will haul my medical waste? We will save you sometime, our answers to all the questions are YES. Call us today, we are always happy to help in any way we can to find a solution for your facility.

Lexington, KY Medical Waste FAQ and Related Searches

What is Medical Waste?

Medical waste is healthcare trash that contains infectious or potentially infectious items. It can come from hospitals, medical clinics, veterinary offices, dental clinics, research facilities, or medical laboratories. It can contain blood or other bodily fluids, or it can appear benign, like gloves or gowns.

According to the Medical Waste Tracking Act of 1988, it’s defined as any waste created during treatment, testing, immunization, research, or diagnosis of human beings and animals. Examples include sharps like scalpels or needles, tissue, fluids, glassware, swabs, culture dishes, or bandages.

What are some Examples of Medical Waste?
  • Expired vaccines
  • Tissue from humans or animals
  • Gowns, gloves, or gauze that may have blood on them
  • Waste from rooms of patients with infectious diseases
  • Needles, scalpels, and broken glass used in procedures
  • Laboratory cultures, stocks, and contaminated culture paraphernalia
  • Bedding from infected animals
What are the types of medical waste?

The WHO identifies the 8 categories of medical waste as:

  • Infectious waste
  • Sharps waste
  • Pathological waste
  • Chemical waste
  • Cytotoxic waste
  • Pharmaceutical waste
  • Radioactive waste
  • Nonhazardous general waste

Those types cover all the potential varieties and sources of regulated and non-regulated healthcare waste.

Who generates medical waste?

You know hospitals and doctor’s offices create medical waste. But blood banks, dental clinics, and urgent care clinics create it too. Pharmacies, veterinary clinics, medical testing labs, research labs, nursing homes, hotels where patients stay, and funeral homes also create regulated waste.

Even an office building can generate biohazardous waste. Why? Because if someone gets a nosebleed at work and uses a tissue to stop it, they’ve created regulated waste. There was a hotel in Boston, next door to Mass General Hospital, was fined twice for medical waste violations from hotel guests.
